Hi there! My name is Derek Wong, and I have worked in product design for 10+ years and specialized in design systems for 7+ years.
The Past
While pursuing my Visual Cinematic Arts degree at UC San Diego, I provided freelance graphic design and videography work. From there, I went onto Visual UI Design, then eventually Product Design and Design Systems.
The Now
My most recent design work was for Roblox’s uiBlox design system. At 4.5 years, I was the design system’s longest owner. I became the company’s key design system consultant for its flagship products, as well as an advisor on its peripheral design systems.
The Future
I am seeking a Design Systems or Product Design position in the San Francisco Bay Area. I’m looking for a small to medium design team so that an improved design system can make a large impact.

When it comes to design, I allow these two principles to guide me:
Design is a communication tool. There MAY be an objective answer to solve your design problem.
Design, as with all forms of art, is all subjective. There are no rules, but you can set guidelines that work best for your product.
